The Christmas season is upon us and its time to fill yourself with some holiday cheer. But not just any old holiday cheer; today we will be looking at our favourite Christmas brews that are sure to help you get in the festive spirit.

Traditionally speaking, in the winter months breweries tend to focus on darker brews such as Stouts, Porters, Strong Ales and Imperials, which can be higher in ABV and richer in malt.

Refined Fools' Manger Danger

This winter ale is malt-forward with chicory, dried figs and brown sugar. At 6.5% ABV and perfectly spiced, it will help you feel nice and toasty when the harsh Canadian winter comes knocking at your door. Available on our bottle shop.

Oast House's Biere de Noel

A limited edition festive Farmhouse Ale in the style of a Belgian Dark Strong Ale. Aged for 6 months in bourbon barrels, it hits with heavy malts and a 7.5% ABV. Tastes include chocolate, dates, molasses, whiskey-dosed fruit pudding, seasonal spice and a hint of cola.

Great for consuming by a roaring fire or putting in your cellar to age and enjoy at a later date.

Refined Fools' It’s Flute Season

If the Manger Danger is a brew to warm you, It’s Flue Season is the one that rewards you for being inside on a cold winter’s night. This holiday 6.8% stout is perfect for an after dinner digestif with a hint of mint chocolate making it a sweet treat. Available on our bottle shop

Sawdust City Brewing's Hygge

Once a year Sawdust City produces this winter fan favourite, changing the recipe each time. This year they have added Riesling juice from the Malivoire Wine Company, and added in oak spirals. This brew is an effervescent ale treat with a dry finish and slight tartness.

Hygge is a Danish and Norwegian word for a mood of coziness and comfortable conviviality with feelings of wellness and contentment. So you can either enjoy this brew with friends or by yourself, but it’s available only during the winter months, so you'll have to go out and enjoy it now before that feeling fades away.

Left Field's Sweet Jesus Mocha Marshmallow Stout

A past personal favourite, this stout was brewed in collaboration with Sweet Jesus, known for their soft serve ice cream and coffee. They have added roasted, crushed cocoa nibs and a blend of Brazilian Sweet Jesus coffee beans to create this stout. The traditional bitterness that comes with stouts is cut smoothly with the addition of lactose to lend a sweetened effect.

Royal City's Holiday Mix Pack

One beer not enough? Royal City's Holiday Mix Pack comes with four different styles. Packed with a Gose, Winter Warmer/Strong Golden Ale, Brown Ale with Apple & Almond Spice Tea and a Brown Ale with Ginger and Black Pepper. This box covers most of the bases with a variety of flavours. Available on our bottle shop.
