Spring: a time of rejuvenation and re-growth. Freshness and renewal abound; and as with everything else at this time of year, we turn to bright and shiny beers that remind us of the warm weather that is soon to arrive.
I give you my top 5 go to spring beers in no particular order:
This seasonal release is by far one of my favourites. If I see this one on tap, I’m most likely ordering it. Bright florals and citrus scream springtime and this effervescent beer leaves you thirsting for more.
This beer is a very traditional style of Saison, perfect for the season regardless of the weather. Spicy and earthy with just enough alcohol to warm up those chilly spring nights.
I know what you're thinking: a dark beer in a springtime beer rundown? I personally think that black lagers make a great beer to transition away from the cold winter months, and that like spring they kind of straddle the line between so-called "winter" and "summer" beer styles. This crisp and dry beer will keep you refreshed sitting in the warm spring sun while the roasted coffee and chocolate notes will help to keep you warm when the temperatures inevitably dip in those cool (sometimes just plain cold) spring evenings.
I know this is pretty much a year round beer, but I tend to gravitate more toward this one particularly in the springtime. The tartness, not to mention the variety of flavours that Bellwoods releases this beer in, is so satisfying that I felt it just had to be included.
This Ides of April would probably be a good beer to stock up on since it'll carry well into the hotter months of late May and June. Bright and refreshing, this beverage pairs well with springtime gardening. And coming in at just 3.7% ABV, it is extremely crushable.
