SOBDL Picnic Point

In 1970, the University of Toronto Homophile Association organized small picnics on Toronto Island at Hanlan's Point and Wards Island to celebrate gay unity. Four years later, in 1974, Toronto held its very first Pride Week celebrations in support of gay rights.

Mayor Barbara Hall took a stand in 1995, marching in the Pride Parade marking the first time a head of city council took part in Pride celebrations. Mayor Hall's stance thrust Pride firmly into the spotlight of the political landscape.

For decades, Toronto's LGBTQ community has celebrated their diversity by throwing the largest Pride festival in North America. Henderson's Picnic Point Pale Ale is an ode to the original Hanlan's point picnickers and protesters. An easy-drinking beer perfect for every Pride event, this effervescent pale ale is thirst quenching and smooth.
